Welcome to Data Dozen! My name is Erin Waldron and I’m delighted to be joining the Data aNd Analytics Resource Group to bring you this 2019 Summer Seminar Series. We’ll cover a lot of ground in just three hours, so rest assured all of the resources can be found here. Enjoy!

what you'll learn

Each of our three seminar series will cover a different topic relating to data analytics. We’d love to have you join us for every session, but each of these seminars stands on its own. Here’s what we’ll explore.

TUESDAY, JULY 23 @ 10AM

BRINGING DATA TO LIFE: CREATING IMPACTFUL DATA VISUALIZATIONS

In the opening seminar, we’ll take an immersive look at the field of data visualization. From historical firsts to modern day takes, we’ll explore how to incorporate the best data visualization strategies in our own work.

MONDAY, AUG 12 @ 2PM

LONG AND SKINNY: PREPARING DATA FOR VISUALIZATION

We will deconstruct the ideal data structure for creating visualizations. From the level of aggregation to which variables to provide, this session will offer insights into the most common data structure hiccups visualization specialists experience.

THURSDAY, SEPT 5 @ 11AM

THE COMMUNICATION CHECKLIST: CREATING BETTER ORGANIZATIONAL CONVERSATIONS AROUND DATA

Finally, we’ll dive into the most significant and wide-reaching feature underpinning good analysis: effective communication. We will build out a step-by-step checklist to facilitate more meaningful and compassionate organizational dialogues around data.

Creating impactful Data visualizations

These historical firsts and modern day masterpieces offer infinite inspiration. From these fifteen visualizations, we can distill good data visualization down to three rules of thumb to follow in our own work.
