DATA THAT MOVES

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 8, 2023 ⋅ HARVARD UNIVERSITY, STRATEGIC DATA PROJECT

WELCOME

Let’s talk interactive visualizations.

This tool-agnostic session unpacks the fundamentals of creating interactive digital visualizations that are both engaging and intuitive for our audience. We’ll deconstruct how to strategically leverage the deluge of hovering, clicking, and filtering functionality our modern tools offer, replacing audience overwhelm with enthusiasm. We’ll highlight the most common mistakes data creators make when building interactive visualizations, and debunk wide-spread misconceptions about how our audiences actually use the data tools we build. The session culminates with a live demo in Tableau Software that applies the best practices covered in a real example. You’ll leave with a new perspective and a new toolkit to create engaging interactive visualizations your audience loves to use.
